Vintage Fun!

My son and daughter had a chiffarobe in their room that was about to fall apart. Every time you pulled out the middle drawer, the whole front of the drawer would come off.  So we got the bright idea that we should look at the thrift store while we were dropping off a donation to see if we could find one. My husband is handy with paint and I am a decent refinisher thanks to my mom and her love of antiques, so we figured we could pretty one up if we could find a sturdy one.  Couldn't find anything in Monterey, so we saw an ad for a used furniture store in Castroville and figure we'd go. It was closed, but my husband said there was a listing for another thrift store that should be a couple blocks up and he would walk up and check it out. I get a phone call that they have tons of dressers, so I go in, and what he thought was a Salvation Army was actually a vintage resale shop. And boy was it a fun place to look around! They had lots of vintage buttons (some of which came home with me ) ,china, glassware, clothes, and furniture.  And there in the front of the store was a gorgeous maple dresser with filgree drawer pulls and matching side tables. So while my husband was loading it into the car, I looked around and it dawned on me....I have matching glassware and teacups to a lot of the china she had displayed. No wonder I felt so at home there!!

Of course now I have some more vintage jewelry and buttons to create with too, so all in all a fun afternoon.

Tutu Dresses and Random Things

So I used the instructions I had for the tutu dress and I hated it...lol.  I sat down and looked at a whole bunch of them and I figured something out......why am I making a "no sew" tutu dress when I actually do know how to sew???  Took it apart and restarted it, this time sewing it instead of knotting and I have to say it looks about a 100 times cuter. I can't wait to finish it, but I have a couple of orders I need to get done first....and my husband has decided that we need to get pre moving stuff done THIS WEEKEND.......even though we aren't actually moving until November. But hey, if it gets my house cleaned I am all for it.  I got an absolutely amazing ribbon organizer from a friend though, so I started organizing with my addiction...I mean my ribbon and fabric stocks.  I thought my mom had a lot of fabric....but it seems craft addiction is hereditary and I have it too. My poor daughter...

Speaking of my daughter, her birthday is coming up next week too, so I have to get a cake baked for her too. Unless I cop out and go to the bakery which is really looking good right now.Especially as she has dumped the laundry basket for the 6th time trying to "help" mommy. Then I have to figure out what to get a 1 yr old girl......This is a first for me. I have 2 other kids, but they are all boys. I am dying to get her something uber girly but I haven't figured out what yet.  Any ideas??

Tuesday Madness

So the sisters have been busy, although it may not look like it from the blog!  Last weekend we ran around Monterey together with the husbands and the big herd of kids. We went out to lunch and the kids all sat at a table together and DID NOT FIGHT! Yes this is amazing. All thanks to the oldest, Mal who took charge. It was surreal sitting at a table with all adult conversation when I spend most of my day with 2 toddlers and a school ager.  So refreshed with Ghiradelli Ice Cream from the soda fountain we are back to work.

The vintage side of Two Sisters is going well! We have several headbands in the works, some more clips and dresses. The red birdcage veil is finished and with its new owner, so we should have some pics up of that shortly.  We also did are first little veil for a photography prop, but it turned out so much better than we thought. We will be giving one away at our friend Brandy's Blog once she hits enough fans at her facebook site. They are available at the extremely reasonable price of 20 dollars.

I am going to be trying my first ever tutu dress so please wish me luck. My daughter's first birthday is comming up and I am making (hopefully) a tutu dress and a marabou trimmed giraffe party hat for her pictures. Ordered the supplies today, fingers crossed.

Lots more bows comming up soon as well. I have several just waiting to be finished off, including some cute Halloween korkers and Bows. Never to early to stock up!

Have a Wonderful Day!!!----Robyn at Two Sisters
